The Flying Squirrel

Flying squirrel or Gliding Squirrel?

The flying squirrel is unique apart from other squirrels because of it's loose fold of skin, which stretches between their front and hind legs, enables them to glide for distances of 20 meters or more. The Term "Flying" is misleading because it really just glides, incapable of true flight. Steering is accomplished by a cartilaginous wrist bone and the tail acts as a stabilizer in flight.
